Deciding whether you should buy a fifth wheel or a travel trailer is your personal choice. Things to consider include some of the different features offered by the two styles of trailer and how you plan on towing the unit. Travel trailers sleep six or more people and can be towed by a full size van, sport utility or pick-up truck and even some full size automobiles. Travel trailers have the bedroom and living room area all on one level. Travel trailers range in length from 16' to 37' and with 28'-37' units slide out rooms are available which greatly adds to your living space and floor plan innovations. Fifth wheels generally start at about 21’ in length and range in size to well over 30’. These units start at entry level prices and quality and continue to top-of-the-line quality. A pick-up is required for towing these units. Even though fifth wheels are taller and heavier than a comparable length travel trailer, they tow more smoothly. The hook-up, un-hook process is relatively easy and a tighter turning radius make parking and maneuvering much easier. The higher-end fifth wheels have ample stand-up room in the bedroom that extends over the truck bed. You have the options of a bedroom slide out and one or two slide outs in the living area.
